Calendar

All of the people of New Earth use the same calendar. The names of the months and days vary by region, but the calendar itself remains unchanged. There are 360.5 days in the calendar year (generally 360 days on even numbered years, 361 days on odd numbered years). Each month is 30 days long. Months are divided into five, 6-day weeks. This means the calendar does not alter between the years. In the years with the extra day, it falls outside of the normal calendar, not being considered a part of any single week or month.

The days of the week are named: Firstday, Workday, Midweek, Lastday, Freeday, Endweek, and the extra day every other year called Leapday. Recently, the days have begun to be called by their archaic, Terran names. This translates to a week with the days called: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The name Sunday is reserved for the extra day of odd years. Leapday (or Sunday depending on local customs) is generally placed at the end of the year, after the end of the last month. Generally, this extra day is a day of celebration.

The months of the year once had alternate names, but the popularity of the archaic Terran names has caused their use to become the norm. The seasons, of which there are five, roughly correspond to the months as follows. Winter falls in December, January, and the beginning of February. Spring is the end of February, March, April. Summer is in May, June, and the beginning of July. Scouring is the end of July, August, and September. Autumn is in October, and November. Note that this is for the Northern hemisphere. Southern hemisphere countries have this reversed (Winter and summer switching places, Spring and Autumn switching places, Scouring remaining the same).

The day length is the standard 24 hours of Terra, with the hours divided into 60 minutes each and the minutes divided into 60 seconds each.

The year is based off of the fall of the Second Empire of Man, with the first day of the year memorializing the last day of the Empire. This is the only holiday that all nations in the world celebrate, all other holidays varying with local customs.
