Human

Human (homo sapiens sapiens)

The standard by which we judge all other species. The descendants of the Humans who left Earth (Terra) those many generations ago. Humanity as a whole remains pretty much the way they were when they left Earth (Terra), with only minor changes in appearance and behavior.

Humanity ranges in height between 5’6" and 6’6", with average weight ranging between 130 and 200 pounds. It is not unheard for of a Human to not fall within this spread, but those individuals are the exception and not the norm.

Subspecies

Despite the large variety of life out there, humanity seems to have proved to be the most adaptable (as well as being one of the more prolific species as far as overall population). This adaptability has caused a number of subspecies of humanity to begin to develop over the centuries. All variations of humanity are different enough to be considered separate, yet genetically similar enough to allow for genetic compatibility.

Terran (homo sapiens robustus)

The descendants of the Humans who were left behind on Earth (Terra) after its conquest by the Neohumans. Terrans are a hardy bunch, much tougher than most of the Human subspecies. Due to generations of subjugation by the Neohumans, the Terran subspecies tend to be grouped in one of two ways. There are those who have escaped the power of the Neohumans, and have managed to establish their own sovereign nations (small as they may be). The other group is the Terrans who still serve the Neohumans, whether from actual loyalty or an inability to understand the concept of self-governance.

Terrans range in height between 5’4" and 6’3", with average weights being in the 130 to 190 pound range. As with other species of Human, there are occasionally Terrans who do not fit the standard.

Nerther (homo sapiens advena)

Nerthers are the original Human inhabitants of New Earth. It is assumed that the Nerthers originated from New Earth, but they are actually just colonists who reached the planet much earlier than their compatriots. The population of "pure-blood" Nerthers has dwindled over the years, as interbreeding between Nerthers and Humans has caused the two subspecies to begin to rejoin as one. Approximately 80% of the world’s population is of Nerther descent.

Nerthers range in height between 5’6" and 6’6", with average weight being between 130 and 200 pounds. Nerthers are virtually indistinguishable from a Human. Only a slight increase in psi and magical talent gives any indication of the difference between the two subspecies.

Orbiter (homo sapiens levitas)

Orbiters are a subset of Humanity that have adapted to life in low gravity environments. The generations of living in a low gravity environment have caused a number of changes to their physiology. When an Orbiter visits a world with standard gravity, they are more susceptible to injury from something as simple as tripping. Additionally, if an Orbiter spends too much time on a world with higher gravity than they are used to, they run the risk of death from the strain on their system.

Orbiters range in height between 6’0" and 7’0", with average weight ranging between 110 and 180 pounds. When on standard gravity world, Orbiters will move more slowly and have a higher chance of injury. Orbiters cannot visit high gravity worlds.

Squatter (homo sapiens gravis)

Squatters are a subset of Humanity that have adapted to life in high gravity environments. The generations of living in a high gravity environment have caused a number of changes to their physiology. When a Squatter visits a world with standard gravity, they are less susceptible to injury. Additionally, if a Squatter spends too much time on a world with lower gravity than they are used to, they run the risk of death from the strain on their system.

Squatters range in height between 4’9" and 5’9", with average weight ranging between 160 and 230 pounds. When on standard gravity world, Squatters will move much quicker and have a lower chance of injury. Squatters cannot visit low gravity worlds.
