The technology on New Earth is an odd mix, to say the least. This is due to a combination of a few things. First and foremost, the Great Collapse has influenced the technology level. Secondly, the influx of alien technology has had its own impact. Third, the rapid rate at which technology was once, and is again, being developed. Fourth, the influx of technological advancements from the Northern Reaches has brought a level of technology not seen for over 4000 years. Finally, the rediscovery of records dating back to the time of the Exodus has had an effect on regaining the technology lost to the Collapse.

As it currently stands, the technology on New Earth is mostly at the same level as the 20th and 21st centuries on Earth (right before the end). Some nations, like Shodan, are much more technologically advanced than the rest of the world. Conversely, nations like Azatlan are relatively tech poor.

In addition to the "average tech" found most places (firearms, automobiles, personal computers), there is also "medical tech" (cybernetics and bionetics), "alien tech" (energy weapons), and "recovered tech" (jump drives).

Modern industry has divided the majority of all technology into generalized categories. Most major corporations will focus on one or more of these classifications. The classifications are as follows.

Materials Technology deals with the production of new materials, for use in other areas of development. This includes such items as metals, plastics, textiles, ceramics, and other such materials (including polymer hybrids). This particular technological classification is so widespread that there are few major corporations that do not deal in it to some extent.

Communications Technology is the classifications dealing with the creation and maintenance of the various communication methods. The most common of these would be telephone services, but it also includes software used in computers to facilitate communications. The current fad among developers of communications is interplanetary and interstellar communication, with FTL as the proverbial "holy grail" of the field.

Energy Technology deals mainly with the different sources of power used in most walks of life. This is primarily a fusion based industry, though there are still some instances of combustion based power. Starbrite Inc. has been in competition with Aztech Industries recently over the development of a matter/antimatter engine. It is theorized that this would be a source of near infinite power, but so far the desired results have eluded scientists.

Medical Technology covers everything from ways to fight diseases creation of diseases, from ways to better repair injuries to ways to prevent them from happening. The major aspects of this field currently are the sciences of genetics, cybernetics (inorganic replacement and enhancement), and bionetics (organic replacement and enhancement).

Nano Technology was once a major field of study, until the Great Collapse. Due in large part to the effect nanotechnology had on the current state of technology, and the lack thereof, this branch of industry is considered taboo by most. Despite this fact, there are still a number of corporations willing to risk investing time and resources into this science.

Weapons Technology covers a wide field of advancement, so wide that it has become further divided into specialized fields. The general agreement among the larger weapons manufacturers of the world is that this branch of technology can be divided into Melee Weapons, Energy Weapons, Firearms, and Military Weapons. Among manufacturers of melee weapons, there is a small branch that specializes in more high tech versions of classical weaponry, integrating current technology with more primitive weapons for a new take on older ideas. Also related to this field of technology is the field of Armors.

Transportation Technology covers all aspects of transportation, including any military aspects it may include. As with weapons technology, this field has been subdivided into specialized fields. The most common of these are Aquatic Vehicles, Cars & Hovercraft, Motorcycles, Aerial Vehicles, and Spacecraft. Recent tests of experimental Power Armors and Mecha have caused a buzz among the manufacturers, indicating that this may be a popular new category of transportation industry in the upcoming months.

Computer Technology is the last of the major industries. This field covers both hardware and software. With the high level of computerization in the world, and the general popularity of computers, this field is second only to materials tech in size.
